Home on Yorkfield Broken Into Tuesday
So far in January, several burglaries and an attempted burglary have been reported.
A home on the 300 block of Yorkfield, in southeast Elmhurst, was broken into sometime before 6:18 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, Elmhurst police reported.
The resident returned home after 6 p.m. and noticed his $500 laptop and $200 iPod were missing from the home. Drawers and items were scattered throughout the house.
The window on a rear garage door was smashed in order to gain entry to the house. This burglary comes on the heels of several reported in Elmhurst last week near the downtown area.

We had a suspicious man come to our door on Monday asking if we wanted to purchase some left over food he had after making deliveries. Monday was extremely cold out, not ideal weather to be walking around Elmhurst making sales calls. I called the police to inform them of this and the officer who answered the phone didn't seem interested at all. I guess they have solved all the break-ins around Elmhurst.

No way, the cop was probably interrupted with his " donut break". Why the police did not send a marked or unmarked police squad to check up on this. Homeowners, beware, first if someone odd is at your door, don't open the door, either shout thru the door that you are not interested or tell them to go away. Put your porch light on so they know you are home. You never know if this guy would have overpowered you and entered the house and grab what ever he could..............

OMG!!! Elm hockey mom- we had a guy come to our door Tuesday night selling meat. It was dark out and our curtains were still open so you could see right in the house. You could also see clearly that I was talking on the phone (which made me distracted- a perfect target. When I anwered the door, he was standing at the bottom of our steps which I thought was unusual, but from there you can get a good look inside the house (or someone could be around the back of the house). Anyway, after I refused him I went back in and waited to see if he would go to our neighbors homes too (you could clearly tell they were home) but instead he got in his truck and drove slowly down the street. He stopped about 5 or 6 houses away, got out and went up to another house (a house that usually leaves their blinds open all the time). Made me very suspicious- like hes casing our homes. When he left, I took a walk. Looking at the houses on our block, most had their curtains closed, but cars were in the driveway and lights were on throughout the home- you could tell people were home. And when I looked at the other house he stopped at indeed they blinds were open. First thing that came to mind is that he was casing homes and only went up to houses where he could clearly see inside. When I called the police I got the SAME reaction!!!!! "Oh ya, theres a guy who sells meat in elmhurst" "he probably went up to your houses cuz he could see you were home".

I happened to notice last night around 5:45 pm three cop cars pulled over with lights flashing on Palmer Drive. They were questioning what appeared to be an elderly man walking down the street. There were 4 cops surrounding him and he was getting his wallet out of his pocket. Anyone know what that was all about? He seemed so harmless!

Are you kidding me???? With all the burglaries in Elmhurst that is your reaction???? When we just had a burglary on our block??? Who the hell knows WHO this guy is. We keep on hearing- if you see supsicious activity to call. But WHY??? And people talk about starting a neighborhood watch- what for? If we see something suspicious its just disgregarded anyway!!!! This is RIDICULOUS.

Did you call 911 or the police department? Always call 911, not the non-emergency number.

Sounds good to me, but who is going handle the other police emergency and service calls that occur throughout the day???

And what other "police emergencies" would those be M? Are you possibly referring to all of those revenue generating traffic stops?
First things first! We need police patrolling out there stopping these thieves BEFORE they make their way into our homes. Will they allow all of these burglaries to continue, until someone gets injured or killed?
