Franklin Park Man Sent to Prison for November Robberies in Elmhurst, Wood Dale
Plea agreement reached with prosecutors.
A Franklin Park man has pleaded guilty to committing hold ups in Elmhurst and Wood Dale in November.
Christopher Accardo, 26, was sentenced to six years in prison as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors earlier this week. He received concurrent sentences and was given credit for a little more than six months he has spent in DuPage County Jail, according to court records.
Accardo and a second man, Diego Garcia, were charged in late 2010 related to a pair of robberies on Nov. 30. Prosecutors alleged Accardo and Garcia used a gun to threaten a man on York Road before taking his cell phone, keys and ATM card, according to court documents. Earlier, they used a knife to take similar items from a man walking along Irving Park Road in Wood Dale.
Elmhurst and Wood Dale police worked together on the investigation, which was bolstered by descriptions of the suspects and the car they used to leave the scene of one robbery.
As part of plea, prosecutors amended the armed robbery charge against Accardo to eliminate references to a gun being used in the crimes.
Garcia, who is scheduled to appear in court next week, remains held in Cook County Jail on charges from an unrelated early December shooting in Oak Park. That arrest and related evidence led investigators to connect Garcia and Accardo to the DuPage County robberies, Wood Dale police said previously.
