Flags Honor Each York Alum Killed in Service

York Student Council encourages all veterans and their families to attend a free breakfast Saturday.

York High School students arrived this morning to a flag display along the school's the circle drive in honor of Veterans Day. Each flag carries the name of a York graduate who died in the service to the country.

Students started the day with an all-school Veterans Day assembly at 7:45 a.m. with presentations from veterans, York students and administrators.

On Saturday, Nov. 10, York will sponsor its annual Veterans Day breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. in the school cafeteria, 355 W. St. Charles Road. All veterans and their families are welcome to this free event.

For information and to RSVP, call Student Council Advisor Matt Moran at (630) 617-2400, Ext. 7285, and leave a message indicating how many people will be attending. Moran also can be reached by email at mmoran@elmhurst205.org.

Saw these flags at Sandburg MIddle School as well last night and was wondering what they were for. So glad this was done and hope it serves as a stark reminder for those that gave everything for our freedoms.

This is wonderful. In my day, shamefully, many college-age people spit (literally) on returning Viet Nam veterans. It appears these students at York have their heads on straight. Good for them.
