Elmhurst Police Report Theft of Sewer Grates, License Plates, Phones, Tools and More
Incidents from the Elmhurst police blotter Nov. 30-Dec. 6.
Two 14-year-old girls and a 15-year-old girl were arrested at Kmart, 265 S. Route 83, for removing makeup and clothing from the store without paying at 2:31 p.m. Nov. 30. They also were all charged with truancy. They were released to their parents.
The front and rear license plates were taken off a 2009 Infiniti G37X that was parked in the city parking garage at 211 W. First St. between 7:15 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Nov. 30.
Sewer grates were taken from the northeast corner of Crescent and Kenilworth between noon and 4 p.m. Dec. 1, from Niagara and Fern sometime before 7:38 a.m. Dec. 2, and from Linden and Crescent sometime before 4:38 p.m. Dec. 2.
A man placed an ad to sell his white iPhone 5 on Craigslist, and he got a call on Dec. 1 from a woman who wanted to buy it. He agreed to meet the woman at 440 W. Lake St. at 7:25 p.m. Dec. 2. The victim said he chose that location because video cameras are located in the lot to monitor the transaction. A man described as black, about 25 years old with a shaved head, pierced ears and wearing a beige sweater and dark jeans, arrived at the location and paid for the phone with 13 counterfeit $50 bills. He was driving a red Ford Windstar.
A nail gun, two batteries and a charger were taken from the back of a truck parked on the first block of Elm Creek Lane between noon Nov. 26 and noon Nov. 27. The property belongs to Phoenix Builders out of Rolling Meadows.
A $1,000 laptop, a $600 iPad and a $200 iPod were taken from a home on the 900 block of South Hawthorne between 7 and 11:59 p.m. Nov. 20. The victim said she noticed the items missing the day after she had some friends over.
An employee at the Clark gas station, 162 Addison, allegedly scratched the scan codes on a number of Lottery tickets that were not paid for to see if they were winners between 3:15 and 10:01 p.m. Nov. 30. The suspect was released pending an investigation.
Someone removed a car key and file cabinet key from under a desk at Home Medical Express, 650 W. Grand Ave. Apt. 209, between 8:20 and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 4. Loss is estimated at $200.
A phone stolen on the 600 block of North West Avenue sometime before 12:05 a.m. Dec. 6 was used at 6:30 a.m. that same day, police said. The victim said he lost his Samsung Galaxy S3 while he was playing with his dog.
Someone removed the rear license plate of a Toyota 4-Runner parked at the Larch Street parking deck between 7:14 a.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 5.
The rear license plate was reported stolen from a vehicle parked near Cottage Hill and Church streets at around noon Nov. 5. It was not reported until Dec. 6.
A resident of the 200 block of East Butterfield said his PNC Bank check card was used to make six unauthorized transactions for a total of $1,209.69 on Nov. 26.
Someone opened a Verizon Wireless account using the personal information of a resident of the 500 block of Fairview Ave. It was discovered at 12:32 p.m. Dec. 4.
