2011 began with heartbreak as Elmhurst police officer Kyle Dieling was laid to rest on Jan. 6. He was killed in a car crash on New Year's Day in Homer Glen while on a hunting trip. Officers from dozens of communities gathered to pay their respect to Dieling.

Our pictorial also includes everything from holiday events to storm coverage to circus controversy.

Tell us what you liked and what else you'd like to see in 2012.

Here's to you, Elmhurst Patch readers. May 2012 be your best year yet.
