Elmhurst Man Has a Broken Neck After Fall at Starved Rock
He and two friends reportedly were in an unauthorized area.
Michael A. Wangler, 23, of Elmhurst is in critical condition after he broke his neck in a fall Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Starved Rock State Park, according to an article on mywebtimes.com.
Wangler was with two friends, Gregory W. Hamby and Thadius Zychowski, also from Elmhurst, who carried him out of the canyon and brought him to the hospital, TribLocal is reporting. All three were cited for entering a restricted area, the article says.
Starved Rock is about 94 miles southwest of Chicago.

I am very sorry to read about this. Men are hunters who seek adventure. This is not about bad behaviors. I hope that all turns out well.

My prayers are with the Wangler family - such a horrible tragedy.
Sadly, another boy fell from a sandstone ledge this past weekend at Starved Rock. His family was also in an unrestricted area. Perhaps these areas aren't as well marked as they should be? I've gone hiking there and some of the trails further out aren't well travelled at times. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-09-05/news/chi-mchenry-boy-8-hospitalized-after-falling-26-feet-in-starved-rock-state-park-20110905_1_cary-boy-frazier-ottawa-river-rescue
