Elmhurst League of Women Voters has Scheduled Candidate Forum

Forum will be held at City Hall Sunday, Feb. 13.

Elmhurst League of Women Voters will hold its candidate forum from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Sunday, Feb. 13, at Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St.

Candidates for alderman, District 205 School Board and Park Board have been invited to attend.

The public event gives all candidates vying for the same office equal time to express their positions on the issues. The League decides which questions will be asked of all candidates in each race. Also, in past years, LWV has been able to take a handful of written questions from the audience, and it hopes to continue the practice.

Candidates will also have the opportunity to greet the public informally in the City Hall lobby afterward. Only candidates participating in the forum will be able to distribute campaign literature outside the forum room. Campaign material and electioneering will not be allowed in the forum room.

If only one candidate for a contested race is present at the forum, or if a candidate is running unopposed, that candidate’s participation will be limited to a timed statement of introduction to the voters. These candidates will be welcome to participate in the informal public gathering after the forum. The League adheres to this practice because it is bound by strict nonpartisan policies consistent for each election.

The forum will be broadcast on the Elmhurst public access channel several times before the election and streamed on the LWV Web site.

Elmhurst LWV will post candidates’ written responses to questions on its Web site. The questions include those asked at the forum, as well as some additional ones.
