Elmhurst Hospital Opening, Music and BMX Tricks Headline a Busy Weekend

1. VERY FUNNY MAGIC
Where/When: 10:30-11:15 a.m. Saturday at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave.
Why Go: At 6’7”, Dennis DeBondt is the “Sears Tower” of magic. His performance is fun, interactive, and fast-paced, and all of his tricks were learned from books at the library. Pick up tickets at the Help Desk starting at 9 a.m. on the day of the performance.

2. MORE AT THE LIBRARY: BMX TRICKS
Where/When: 1-2 p.m. Friday at Elmhurst Public Library, 125 S. Prospect Ave..
Why Go: X-Games medalist Matt Wilhelm is a BMX world champion. He'll perform amazing bike stunts while instructing on bicycle safety and how to become a champion. For those entering grades 3-8.
Cost: Free
3. SUMMER EXTRAVAGANZA
Where/When: 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Elmhurst College, 190 S. Prospect Ave.
Why Go: The concert features Bobby Floyd on keyboards, Count Basie Orchestra drummer Dennis Mackrel and trumpeter Byron Stripling, artistic director of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, accompanied by the Elmhurst College Jazz Band.
Cost: Free.
4. SHOP FOR FABULOUS BARGAINS
Where/When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 155 W. Brush Hill Road, Elmhurst.
Why Go: Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church is hosting a huge garage sale that will offer everything from furniture to computers, toys, crafts, candles, clothes and housewares. If you can think of it, it will be there. The event also will include a silent auction, frozen drinks, a bake sale and grilled brats.

5. EMHC GRAND REOPENING FESTIVAL
Where/When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at 155 E Brush Hill Rd, Elmhurst.
Why Go: A celebration of the new multimillion-dollar main campus in south Elmhurst. Tours of the new, state-of-the-art hospital, which is located just west of the Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health, (1200 S. York St., will be given from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To reserve a tour time, visit www.emhc.org. Activities will include refreshments, live entertainment, children’s activities and more. Live entertainment includes the Elmhurst College Jazz Band (11-11:45 a.m.), Choral-Aires Chorus-Sweet Adeline’s (12:30-1 p.m.), Anima Singers (1:30-2 p.m.), The Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest (2:30-3 p.m.) and Magical Strings of Youth (4-5 p.m.).
