Elmhurst Couple Dream Up Sweet, Self-serve Treats

They're planning the opening of a new frozen yogurt shop in Glen Ellyn, just in time for summer.

An Elmhurst couple is opening a self-serve dessert shop, SkinnySweet Frozen Yogurt, in Glen Ellyn's Market Plaza (Roosevelt Road between Little Caesars and Panera Bread) this July.

Marianne Cielak-Boyke and her husband, Brett Boyke, are targeting young families who connect with a health-conscious treat that includes low-fat, no sugar added and is gluten-free.

The couple started working on their concept for after visiting Arizona, where they enjoyed frozen, self-serve yougurt with their three kids. Cielak-Boyke enjoyed it so much that she began working on a way to bring a similar concept to the suburbs.

A year ago, it was a tough sell convincing landlords to latch on to the concept, Cielak-Boyke said. Now, more landlords are open to it because they've heard about other, similar ventures.

The store will have a family-friendly atmosphere and will have more than 40 toppings and at least 12 frozen yogurt flavors for consumers to choose from.

It is a great concept that they have had in Chicago for awhile. There is Yogli Mogli self serve in Wheaton at Naperville Rd. and Butterfield. We live in Elmhurst and have been wishing there was a self serve here. We go to the one in Wheaton regularly. There is a yogurt place opening where Caribou was but, I haven't heard very favorable things about this particular type of yogurt. I think it is called Yogen Fruz. Really miss TCBY.

Yogen fruz yogurt is excellent. With 16 Chicagoland locations, plus 1300 world wide it has to mean something. Just check out the reviews on Yelp. The yogurt they use is probiotic, they have tart, low fat, non fat and even a non dairy. It is now open and people have been very satisfied, you should give them a try.

Why didn't they choose Elmhurst? We could use a frozen yogurt shop uptown. Cold Stone is too fattening, Brain Freeze ice cream is poor quality (in my opinion). Healthy tasty alternatives are needed here!

I love this concept, but why is an Elmhurst couple opening a business in Glen Ellyn? Let's spend our money in OUR city!

Who are you to tell them where to open their business? Give me a break!

re-read..."...a year ago it was a tough sell convincing landlords to latch on to the concept...". susan, did it occur to you that perhaps there wasn't a landlord here in elmhurst willing to take a chance on this couple so they had to go elsewhere? i wish them nothing but success in their new venture...sounds very yummy, especially with summer coming.

I was not condemning this couple OR telling them where to open their business. I was merely lamenting the fact that they're not opening in Elmhurst since I shop locally whenever possible. The article doesn't state they tried here, Darlene, but hopefully they did.

Thank you for all of the support! Susan, we did try in Elmhurst as well but weren't able to secure a lease. But that is not to say that we won't keep trying because we would love to be open in both towns!! We hope you all will come visit us in Glen Ellyn too!

Bet you never thought you'd stir up so much controversy by opening a dessert shop. Anyway, good luck on your new endeavor.
