Duckworth Victory in 8th; She's Ready for Joe Walsh
With more than half of precinct results in, Raja Krishnamoorthi concedes and Duckworth marks victory.
Tammy Duckworth said she's ready to take on Joe Walsh for the 8th Congressional district seat.
Duckworth spoke to supporters after getting a call from Raja Krishnamoorthi conceding the race.
"Raja was extremely gracious in congratulating me on my victory. We congratulate him for the great campaign that shows what a postive Democratic primary can be," she said.
Duckworth thanked her supporters and spoke of the differences between her and incumbent Congressman and Tea Party member Joe Walsh.
She said Walsh and Tea Party members are misguided and lacking in empathy. She said they want to take away Medicare from the elderly. She criticized Walsh's support of big corporations at the expense of small business.
"He protects the rights of corporations, but says no to help small businesses create jobs," she said.
As of 9:54 p.m., with 347 of 430 precincts in, Duckworth had 66 percent of the votes, according to WGNTv.com
Duckworth, who survived a serious accident during battle in Iraq, said she believes this time in life is bonus time for her. She lost her legs in a combat helicopter crash in Iraq while serving as a pilot for the National Guard.
"That makes me more fearless; I speak out for what is right," she said.
"My fellow Americans fought for me. I have an obligation to keep fighting for others," she said. Duckworth said she wants to fight for jobs, affordable education and a strong economy.
"The American dream is the opportunity to work hard and make your own future. Alll working famililes want that opportunity," Duckworth said.

Here's a prediction: this will be one of the nastiest campaigns in history, thanks to Mr. Walsh's lack of character.
