UPDATED: Police Release Information About Victims in Monday's Dog Attack

Both dogs that were shot and killed by police are confirmed to be pit bulls.

Elmhurst police have issued a press release identifying the two victims who were attacked by two pit bulls on Monday afternoon.

Robert Moore, age 63, was found on the front porch of the home still in a struggle with one of the dogs. It was during that struggle that police shot the first dog. When they attempted to subdue the second dog, it turned to attack the other officers on the scene and was shot. Both dogs are confirmed to be pit bulls, the release said.

Moore received severe injuries to his arms and leg. He was treated at the scene by Elmhurst paramedics, then transported to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. He has been admitted to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

The second victim, Patricia Koprowski, age 70, was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital with injuries to her arm. She was treated and released.

Two dogs were shot by Elmhurst police Monday afternoon as the dogs viciously attacked people in a home on the 600 block of North Kenilworth.

Police responded to the home at 4:57 p.m. after receiving a report that two pit bulls were attacking people inside. When police arrived, one of the pit bulls was still attacking one of the victims, who was covered in blood. An officer shot the dog.

A second pit bull was running loose on the property and advanced aggressively at an officer, who shot that dog, as well.

One of the victims was taken to Loyola University Medical Center due to the seriousness of the injuries. The second victim was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
