Police say two suspects involved.

This story has been updated with information from the FBI.

--------------------------------------------------

Elmhurst police were dispatched to a bank robbery at the TCF Bank inside the Jewel-Osco at York and Butterfield Road at 12:30 p.m. Monday.

The dispatch report, which came in at 12:28 p.m., reads that the suspects are two black men, "gun implied."

The store was busy with shoppers going about their business. No injuries were reported.

Police officers at the scene said they could not comment, but information likely will be provided later by the Chicago office of the FBI.

How many more banks have to be robbed before we figure out a way to have EVERY bank secured with a security guard??? Where did our public safety go??? Why did we start putting banks in grocery stores anyway??? You go for groceries and all of a sudden you are part of a robbery. We should be thankful that these robbers are not going postal and they are just there to get the money!! I feel sorry for these bank employees, that they have to be put in this situation. Please start protecting these working people!!! I really hope that our comments are seen by "higher ups" and that this is not just a place to vent........

This is why banks, such as sbt, have strict rules that they enforce about removing hats and sunglasses upon entering the bank and no cell phone usage while in the bank! perhaps people should go back to expecting hats to be removed when entering a building-something to be said for etiquette and respect.

You raise a good point about the location of these banks. Robbers would be able to enter a grocery store much easier than a standalone bank. Possibly they should only be connected to the store with its own entrance which would limit traffic. Hopefully they will catch these two very fast.

I agree jski. But the problem in this robbery is that is was in a grocery store (which a lot of the robberies have been) Grocery stores do not have dress codes. They may have looked like an average customer. In this case however it was like 100 degress and these guys come walking in with sweatshirts and hoodies.........not really your average shopper let alone human on a HOT today like that!! In a bank the security guard can take care of the dress code enforment. But in a grocery store, you really can't stop anyone from walking in! GET THESE BANKS OUT OF GROCERY STORES!!!

Working people are not the only that should be protected either

Right!! I noticed I did not include the public. However that is why I said PUBLIC SAFETY in the question part of my comment. At the moment I wrote that, my heart was out for the bank workers.

I must also clarify having an ARMED security guard. Not a "Rent a Cop"

I can't believe it! I spoke with the police this morning at US Bank. They told me they were visiting all the banks to maintain a higher profile and reassure the banks that they were nearby. I also saw them at PNC and later at the bank that was robbed today. Too bad they weren't there a few hours later!

Bank tellers are trained to handle these situations so that no one is hurt. Banks who employ an armed guard are actually charged higher insurance premiums because the likelihood of injury dramatically increases if there is a weapon on the scene. Rent a Cops, if they are doing their job correctly, usually reduce the number of robberies just because of their uniformed presence. If they determine that a robbery is occurring, they can call police more quickly, who will generally wait for the suspect to leave the building before engaging. The worse thing ANYone in the bank can do, is to act like a hero and try to stop the robbery.

Armed or unarmed?? Do all the TCF's have them now. The Jewel on Schiller was robbed a couple mouths ago, I don't see a guard there..............

I don't care who you are, a trained teller or not, that's not enough!! With all the robberies occuring, yes thank God no one has been getting hurt. Having a guard with just a uniform would be wise but the is the KEY phrase is, "Are they trained properly?" In my experience,no!! The unarmed rent a cop with a cell phone would be hiding in the corner, as the robbers were laughing at him/her, making the phone call to police. Besides, do the tellers not have a under the counter or floor security button to dispatch the police so that a phone call does not have to made?? So, if the robbers have guns, what defense do we have. Instead we have banks in crowded grocery stores where more poeple are at harms way when a robber is armed. Police are TRAINED officers who know how to use a weapon. A robber wants the money and if they hold the place hostage the police are going to have to act regardless. I think a security guard with a weapon seen is much more threating then one without. Who should we hire? The kids that you see walking around Walmart as security officers? Pllllllease

Elmhurst Police can't be 'everywhere', but they can certainly focus less on the petty, revenue- making tickets that they're handing out and more on being visibly present and actively patrolling.

23 million AMERICANS 'out of work'....
This is certainly ''change you can believe in...''
Both political parties are culpable because they are ONE in the same...

All of the TELLERS should be armed and properly trained. Perhaps these bank robbing fools would be reluctant to demand cash if they knew they could be shot through the teller's window.

As frustrating as it is, banks don't have armed guards or tellers because they realize that a few thousand dollars that the robber gets is less than the few million dollars that they would pay out if a patron or employee was hurt or killed in a gun fight.

Giving guns to tellers would likely make it more dangerous for the tellers and clients both. Thieves would be better prepared to pull their guns than the unsuspecting teller.

If not armed, then the teller should have a panic button which would spray the robber with a permanent fluorescent die and call 911. We just can't let this go on and on.

Good one Indeprndence666. I could just see it now though. The robber is standing there and all of a sudden, Poof this stuff comes shooting out and freaks the you know what out of them. That alone, if they had a gun, would make them start shooting!!!!!! Its not funny but I am picturing this in my head, them running around like a bee is chasing them thinking all crazy! Not knowing what just hit them. And then having to run with bright yellow or better yet bright pink dye all over them!!!

Will the new grocery store planed for where Elmhurst Ford was have a bank in it? There probably is a market for a grocery store that doesn't attract bank robbers. Even if the tellers are well trained what happens if a customer notices a robbery taking place and takes things into his own hands? The grocery stores need to rethink the benefits of having banks inside the buildings. The majority of their customers don't use them and would place having a safe environment to shop with thier families ahead of the convenience of being able to bank while grocery shopping.

How about this.......when a guy walks into a store, in 100 degree weather, with a sweatshirt or a hoodie on, armed store security should ask him why he's there. Oh wait......that would be profiling, and we certainly couldn't have that now could we LOL. We're our own worst enemy.
