Julianne's Cake and Pastry, 488 South Spring Road, is closed due to a fire in the basement last weekend.
Elmhurst Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Bacidore reported that the call for the fire came in at 2:56 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, and that it was under control by 3:11 p.m. There were no injuries.
The fire was caused by combustible materials placed too close to the water heater, Bacidore said. The fire department estimates damage to the contents of the store at $25,000 and to the structure, itself, at another $25,000.
Fire crews from Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park also responded, and a total of 24 firefighters were on the scene, Bacidore said.
According to a message customers can hear when they call the store, crews are at work restoring the business. There is no reopening date yet, but customers are encouraged to call back for updates.
“We will see you again with a newer and better bakery,” the message says.
Customers are asked not to leave a voice mail message because the store's "phone system is disabled due to melted wires.

Yes, it's a standard response for a fire. Engine companies from both stations, at least one truck from town, at least two ambulances, possibly rescue squad, shift commander, chief or deputy chief, automatic aid engine, truck, and other agencies to fill in depleted stations.
It's better to have too many and send some home than not enough, scramble to get more, take additional risks or have to back off for safety.
Bill, rest assured that your protection was not put at risk at any time and feel lucky that you have such a good response vs. most of the state where it may be 3-5 people for quite a while until help arrives.

Trevor,
Nice response, but that's not where "Bill Angel" was going with his response. He hates all thing government, especially Elmhurst. That was his subtle way of implying there were way to many firefighters on scene. Unless, of course, his mother's house were on fire and he were forced to leave the basement. Then, he'd be posting that it took the firefighters too long to get there and he'd want compensation from the city for his lost set of Star Wars action figures, Star Trek DVD collection and complete set of Playboy from 1972.

that's hilarious, you forgot to ad in the ALF action figures too, but really no one likes government... the best government is one that governs least. obamunism and communism do not work..

Yo Ant,, you are way out there! I think there should have been 50 FF's given it's location on Spring Road. I'm a big fan of government to protect this country. Elmhurst does a great job with their P&F persons. You must work at the Post office, Amtrack, METRA, City Hall.
BTW. it would have been Jonny Quest-GI Joe figs, 8-tracks, and P-House collection.
Mom is kept up in the atttic, dad in the basement so they don't fight!

Got to hand it to you, Angel, you cracked me up. Now get back in the basement and your diabolical plans to smear the mayor of Elmhurst.

Sounds like a Greek bonfire to me...you know the ones that happen when restaurants have run their course and are no longer making money. What idiot keeps combustible materials next to a water heater or any fire?

Actually, great leaders embrace a devils advocate in order to prevent tunnel vision and compensate for the inevitable yes men that exist. It takes a strong person to embrace this. Disagreement is what a democracy is all about. Partisan division can be detrimental and prevent progress. Loyal opposition is healthy. Group think is dangerous yet comforting. You cannot improve something unless it is critiqued.
