Addison Township Republicans Endorse Kirk Dillard in 24th Senate District
His opponent, Elmhurst resident Chris Nybo, says he will "meet voters at their door."
Addison Township Republican Organization has endorsed state Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-24, Westmont) in his bid for re-election. This comes on the heels of the same endorsement by the Downers Grove Township Republicans.
Areas represented by the Addison Township group include the north part of Elmhurst.
The vote took place at Diplomat West Banquets in Elmhurst after extensive interviews of Dillard and his opponent, Rep. Chris Nybo (R-41st, Elmhurst), by a group of precinct committee members. Questions were asked about the candidates' future goals and ideas on fixing the state of Illinois.
Addison Township Republican Chairman Pat Durante said this area of DuPage County is fortunate to have been re-districted into Dillard's district.
“The Democrats have had Addison Township in their crosshairs for many years, and they thought by cutting us up into little slivers they can finally take us over,” Durante said. “But with this endorsed slate we will meet them head on and give them the political fight of their lives.”
Dillard is the former Chairman of the DuPage County Republican Party in Wheaton and chief of staff to former Gov. Jim Edgar.
“I cannot be happier to receive this endorsement," Dillard said. "I want to thank these committeemen that represent Elmhurst and Lombard for showing their confidence in me. I will work tirelessly to make sure I earn their trust. It is time to make Illinois a destination economy for job creators and to make Illinois work again.”
Nybo, a former Elmhurst city alderman, is serving his first term in the Illinois House of Representatives.
"York Township, my home township, has never endorsed candidates in primaries," he said by e-mail, in response to the endorsement. "We work hard to help elect Republicans, and we strongly believe that the voters, themselves, should decide who represents them."
He said that York Township has 100 precincts in the new 24th District, Addison has 10 and Downers Grove has about 40.
"I respect the voters in all of the townships and precincts. My main goal is to personally meet as many of them as possible at their door and, in the words of President Lincoln, 'ascertain with certainty for whom they will vote,' " he said.
Addison Township Republican organization encompasses all or part of Elmhurst, Addison and Lombard; towns within the newly redistricted 24th District also include Downers Grove, Westmont, Hinsdale, Willowbrook, Darien, Clarendon Hills, Burr Ridge, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Glen Ellyn Wheaton and Lisle.

Nybo is now whistling a different tune than when he said, according to The Doings Newspapers, Nybo dismissed the DGTRO endorsement, saying it was "neither surprising nor meaningful." He said he was offered only two minutes to speak, and he called the proceedings an "anti-democratic insider scheme" and a "sham." (http://burrridge.suntimes.com/news/8264703-418/dillard-endorsed-over-nybo-by-downers-grove-township-republican-organization.html). After an outburst, he now conflates himself with Lincoln. Yeah, right...

Actually Frank, the tune isn't a lot different. AT had a panel doing interviews. In a perfect world, the ten committeemen working those precincts would have been the only people there. The world isn't perfect. We'll work them all just as we had planned to before. Endorsing before a single person is on a ballot is still a bewildering practice. Time will tell. Perhaps you can describe this entry as an "outburst".

Maybe we can't describe his statements as an outburst, but his comments to the Downers Grove endorsement speaks to his temperament no matter how you spin it. The comments were solicited immediately after the endorsement. One can argue that it expressed his real opinion about the process, and the people involved with the endorsement. Say what you will, but first impressions of people unfamiliar with Nybo were formed, and it reinforces what his peers already know, his is petulant.
Now that he has been chastised, in this new article, he now spins himself as a man of the people. His populist approach is similar to his mentor's, Barack Obama. As with Obama, we see that this approach wears as thin as his skin as people get to know the person.

Nobody was "chastised" Frank. It's this simple: Endorsing candidates in a primary before a single candidate has actually filed to run is philosophically opposite of what "the people" would hold in their best interest. In our opinion, that was their organization trying to give a leg up to the hometown guy. Not surprising. Not meaningful and not terribly democratic really. There's no retraction on that one. In Addison, they had a panel interviewing. It wasn't just the 10 committeemen of the 10 precincts, so the interests of just those 10 precincts wasn't the primary concern. Addison has 10 precincts, all in Elmhurst, so they're very important to us. We'll go work them very hard. You keep talking about endorsements from this guy, that guy and the other organization as these "peers". Your peers are the governed! They get it. We're not shopping for endorsements of anyone but voters. I've never voted for anyone in my life because "Elected official A" told me to or Organization Y told me to. These are very smart voters. Time for you to catch up with your outfit.

Never thought of Fenwick (or IC, Montini or Benet for that matter) as elitist prep schools. Never thought of this law firm as "blue blood". If you know what that means Mr. Santini, then a Fenwick grad and IC parishioner couldn't work there. The one thing those schools did teach with vigor was presidential history. Especially the ones that didn't use that brand of rhetoric.

And for the record, President Lincoln had less than 1 1/2 years of formal education in his entire life. He rarely even had two consecutive days of education in a school room. Upon walking into Knox College in the Lincoln-Douglas debates and going to the second floor and climbing out a window and onto the portico to address the crowd, he announced "I have now been through college".

"Rep. Awesome" (as he is known by his peers) as Lincoln, yeah, right. Why is it that none of the endorsing organizations endorsed him? Why is it that his peers haven't endorsed Nybo? Why is Lincoln-lite so proud of bucking the system, as he highlights inn all his campaign literature? Why is this Tea Partier so afraid to work within the system to try to change it? Why is his campaign staff talking about education background and staffer pay other than to deflect from Nybo's record, demeanor and integrity.
There can only be simple answers. He is disrespected by the very people who have grown to know him best, Republicans at the organization level and within the legislature. How can he be an effective legislator and representative of his constituents when he disses them whenever things don't go his way, and his peers shun him like a bad stink? With the exception of his own paid staffer, what elected official, you know, those people ALREADY elected by the people, has announced backing for Nybo?

Frank,
Even using your skewed and goofy logic, you've just made a case for the people. His lone vote (bucking the party) was the decider in creating Workman's Comp Reform. Before you start rambling about that one; Dillard voted for it too. It's just that his vote didn't mean anything and the vote in the House did. By the way, he is awesome.

Dillard is shaking in his boots with Nybo as his opponent. Nybo knows how to win and work. Both would be good senators but Nybo has the edge with new ideas and vim and vigor. Dillard is at the top of the state party--a state party that has been an embarrassment in the United States over the past 15 years and a consistent loser.
Fenwick = elitist prep school? Santini you have had way too many Martinis. Fenwick gives free rides to kids from places like Hillside, Bellwood, Oak Park, Chicago, and Maywood, hardly elitist. Sure they have high achieving students, with good discipline, but a good school doesn't make it elitist.

Nybo's lack of any significant accomplishment will be weighed against Dillard's record of significant accomplishments that are too long to list. Lack of accomplishment? Here's your guy. Voted YES for gambling expansion, the DREAM ACT. Took six figures from the teacher's union and now he's going to be a voice in Pension Reform? Go to school Frank. Those ain't Republican or conservative ideals there.

Kevin, which one of his peers has stepped forward to say Nybo is doing what is in the best interest of Illinois. None have. The elected representatives in this state are at least as tuned into the voters as Nybo can ever claim. In the interests of their constituents, their lack of endorsement speaks volumes about their consideration of Nybo as a legislator and representative.

Frank says "The elected representatives of this state are at least as tuned into the voters as Nybo can ever claim" First, I can assure you that is not true. Secondly, you seem to think this is about being popular in the chamber instead of representing your district. Is this really about the other representatives who are supposed to be representing their people or the people Frank. let's just say mr. nybo has a certain "pedigree" - ivy league (dartmouth), u of c law school, and works for one of the top law firms in the city - vedder/price - so comparing oneself to good ole abe is a bit of a stretch, at least in my opinion. the important thing about the endorsements has to do with 2 things - money and man power. the townships have the connections and the ability to provide funding to candidates as well as man power. they have the cash to start mailers and advertisements sooner rather than later, and the man power to do polling, door to door, etc. believe me, had the endorsement gone to nybo, he would have been dancing in the street already claiming victory and looking forward to next november.

Ms. Heslop, Please tell us more about what you know about pedigree. His dad was born and raised in Westchester, his mom in Berkeley. He was raised in Roselle and took the train to Fenwick. He worked his fanny off to get into Dartmouth. He was accepted to Harvard Law and U of C Law School. Chose to go to law school closer to his future wife. Earned the Truman Scholarship to get into law school. Compare and contrast with the competition and tell me all about pedigree. He earned it, every last bit of it including the clerkship for Federal Judge Zagel.
BTW, your understanding of townships giving money to candidates couldn't be further off. Nybo has the most effective organization going door to door anywhere. Because, he's so good at it! Ask anyone, they'll tell you.

pat durante is very powerful and influential - even in york township. while york township may not make an endorsement as a whole, i think that with addison giving the nod to dillard, many in york township will do the same, since the county board districts overlap. if a york township republican wants support in addison township for county board, you can bet the farm that they will support whomever the addison township republicans are endorsing.

Since you appear able to predict the future, how about sharing this Friday's lotto numbers. Your GUESS about support within the York Township Republican organization is just that, a guess. My guess is you're wrong. And since Nybo only believes, and based on his previous comments, respects some of the organizations and not others, why would any of the York Township folks believe anything he says? It looks like the Nybo strategy is to dis other townships like Downers Grove, Milton, Addison, Lisle, and undoubtedly anyone in York that doesn't drink his Koolaid, and is hanging his hat on some percentage of his home district. This is certainly not the calculus of a person who wants to represent ALL his constituents, only those marching lockstep to his arrogance.

Do you think they came to that policy without thinking about the very thing that's happened here with the other two. Their philosophical bent is different. We happen to agree. When you bring out the "kool-aid" type statements, you embarrass yourself. People will support the person they believe will work hardest for them. Santini and Heslop don't be idiots. Education comparisons don't mean anything if you don't know what you are talking about. Educational instruction success comes in many forms, not just test scores. A measure of a great school is what they do and teach, not what the kids score. All the Catholic high schools you mentioned (Immaculate Conception, Montini, Fenwick, Benet, and Loyola) are great schools but they all have different roles based on traditions and purpose. An example of this is Montini. Since the founding of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, their rule states that the Mission of the Institute is “to provide a human and Christian education to the young, especially the poor...” Your attempt of "education" comparisons is like saying York's college prep curriculum is better than their technical shop program.

June to October, 4 months, or approximately 650 man-hours (Assuming a normal work day, when does Nybo find time to perform his legislative duties and his employment responsibilities?). Assume typical voter contact to take about 6 minutes (very conservative, proper contact takes longer), so about 10 people per hour. 10,000 voter contacts, 1000 hours. So, the claim to have had 10,000 voter contacts at their home is very hard to understand, and believe.

It actually takes less than a minute at most, rarely someone wants to talk for a much longer time. If you did 10 per hour, our campaign would have to let you go. If you want to compare my bona fides with yours on this topic, go ahead. Chris has never stopped walking since winning his first election and he's helped plenty of great government people get elected. If you have to stand there for 6 minutes to convince people, you must be selling vacuums.

They will determine where they want their perspective to come from. The overriding truth is that the district will be served. Kirk Dillard is a genuinely nice man. The people on this thread are doing him no favor by commenting the way they are. It's actually hurting him. All the personal stuff is unfortunate. His achievements cannot be listed in 1200 characters, like you were able to do with Nybo's entire list of achievements.
Dillard was the Chief of Staff to former Governor Jim Edgar, starting in 1991, and started service in the Senate in 1994. More of the "new math" you're using on voter contact? Seems like 21 years is not quite 30, even if you include Dillard's time as a judge...

Kevin Fitzpatrick

Dan,
Usually when an official walks away from the dais and then rejoins the meeting, it's because they have identified a conflict with an issue that's being voted on. It could be a client is involved or a family member or an organization you belong to. The official discloses the conflict, doesn't participate in the discussion or debate and temporarily leaves the dais during the vote. Nearly all Trustees or Alderman are obliged to do this from time to time. It's not sinister or chicken, it's in accordance with good practice. An example: Lee Daniels did not vote on the new Commiskey (now Cell One) park, because of a business relationship with the owner that pre-existed. He rightfully refrained from the vote. Chris took lots of tough votes in Elmhurst. It's hard to hide on a City Council.
Dan

Kevin, I don't believe it was the case on this vote since it wasn't a vote on a contract or something similar. If I have the chance I might track it down on the city council archives. I've been to a number of public meetings and I'm pretty familiar with how the process works. I know I won't be electing someone to represent me that votes present on the controversial matters. Others are saying the same thing. Are we all wrong? I didn't have ANY opinion positive or negative about Nybo until I saw him in action.

Dan, I can see that you're not particularly a fan, but you're not entitled to a different set of facts (as it relates to Springfield votes, I'm not an expert on Elmhurst votes). Chris is not someone who has voted "present", but once that I know of. And that vote was on 2nd reading, not final passage. He did so at the request of his leader. His "no" votes were as a result of being called to the Governors office. He removed his voting key so others didn't vote for him in his absence. (that's a whole other story!) He entered in the record his exact voting positions on the votes he missed while in the Governor's office. It's not rare at all for individual and small groups of lawmakers to be called in to speak with the Exec. Branch. Part of this particular meeting included expressing that he would not vote for the Dream Act. If you're not on the floor, another Rep. will cover your voting button for you. Chris didn't want his key left unattended on 3rd reading (final votes). He's very much on the record for these issues and not a "present" on anything down there. Those are the facts.

Curious that you use this statement, especially since he decided to ignore his leader on the Workers Compensation vote, being the only House Republican to do so. This is especially noteworthy considering that right after his vote, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections, he received a $1000 contribution from the Workers Compensation Lawyers Assn PAC. There was no contribution "right after" the vote. There were many companies that supported him, small and large, several weeks afterward at his fundraiser. Some news.

And, yes you're right about those big dollar donations, taken during the Governors race, which as anyone knows is a whole different kettle of fish from a Senate race. Donations show a level of support from a broad spectrum all sectors of business and labor, and individuals. In fact, it is a measure one can use to determine the level of support a candidate has. Dillard is leading in Springfield on pension reform. Don't you find it curious that he would be supported by BOTH manufacturers and unions? As a matter of fact, while you say I'm not helping, it looks like you are determined to point out one of Dillard's greatest strengths over your guy, the fact that he can build consensus and bridge the gap between disparate interests, unlike your my-way-or-the-highway candidate.

We have been working very hard since the beginning of the Summer and we have a wonderful group of folks who help. Nybo is a remarkable door to door guy. Ask around. It's not really hard to believe. Bill, let me try again. In a House District there are approximately 110,000 citizens. In a Senate District, there are about 220,000. By himself, Chris can knock on a lot of doors. He's rarely by himself. 10K x (not plus) 10 would give you the number of doors the whole team could reach. Figure that there are a little more than 1/3 of the households as there are people. (more than 1 person per house). It's not an exact science, you just go precinct by precinct until you hit them all. I'm not trying to mislead you, I'm trying to explain how this kind of effort works. Hope this helps.

No need for an apology Bob. I'm sure you went to an excellent high school and a fine college. I don't diminish anyone's education. Neither do I refer to them as elite. He worked hard to earn his place in the world, as I'm sure you did too. You should see him or a member of his team at some point, or at the very least evidence that he attempted to meet you there (50% or so are not home these days- people are very busy trying to keep up with kids and make a living). If you went to school in Illinois, Lincoln was a hot topic. Chris and I share a great interest in him.

o Sponsored the parental notification and consent bill,
o the “Choose Life” license plate bill
o voted to ban use of state funds on partial birth abortion and contraceptives as well as abstinence education.
• Dillard supported limited stem cell research only when conducted in a MORALLY responsible way and ONLY if there is no use of state tax dollars to fund this research in hopes the research would be that science would at least have the opportunity to see what life-saving advances can be made.

The RTA did much more then what you're saying.
• It’s good government and reduces property taxes.
• This doesn’t affect downstate counties…only Chicagoland.
• THIS BILL WRESTLED CONTROL AWAY FROM TODD STROGER AND GAVE MORE AUTHORITY TO THE SUBURBAN COMMUNITIES on RTA governance. As a Senator, Dillard represents thousands of daily commuters in my district and county.
• Most important, it was a time when Republicans were able to exact major CTA pension reform worth $200 million as well as increased fares, and for the first time the majority of new money (52%) is going to surburban service. 40% of Sales taxes are paid by non residents.
• It also reduced real estate taxes on his constituents and anytime he can reduce real estate taxes and get rid of Todd Stroger controlling anything, he’ll do it.
• Ask Dan Cronin, Joe Birkett and John Milner – they’ll tell you how important it was!

• Dillard DIDN’T VOTE FOR VIDEO POKER. He supports gaming as part of a capital bill. He didn’t pick the revenue stream but does support investing in our States roads and bridges, schools & the jobs they create.
• He committed to his local chamber of commerce and the Naperville Sun newspaper that I would support the capital plan if it were brought up for a vote. Unlike some political figures, he keeps the commitments he makes.
• He spoke out against video poker on the floor during the debate.
• In fact, Dillard was the guy who had to tell Mayor Daley NO as Gov. Edgar’s chief of staff when the Mayor wanted to put a huge new casino and entertainment complex in the city--the size of four football fields.
I wonder what new streams of revenue Nybo supports...

Dillard supported the DREAM act, which allowed Illinois residents with a valid Illinois identification, who had paid ALL of their taxes, had no criminal record and were otherwise qualified to enter an Illinois college to accept PRIVATE funds for their education. Apparently, Nybo expects these folks to be driven out of the state on a rail, and does not care about educating a qualified workforce.
Nybo's extremist views highlights exactly why the Republican Party has huge difficulties reaching out to Hispanic (and other minority) voters. Instead of trying to work to solve the very real problem of what to do with the children of immigrants, Nybo and other extremists instead feel they should criticize those who understand the problems we have, and tries to solve them.

Here's a bulletin; 4 more rationalization of bad vote emails from Frank, starting with rationalizing embryonic stem cell research conduct "in a MORALLY responsible way...his boss Mr. Lewis added in a letter to Committeemen that "these embryos were being destroyed anyway". Newsflash Frank, it's not morally responsible and it hasn't resulted in any saving of life or breakthrough. All the breakthroughs and progress have come from adult stem cells and umbilical cord cells. Mr. Dillard committed in writing that he wouldn't support this and then turned around and not only supported it, but gave a floor speech to help it pass. How moral was that?
On the RTA tax, ask all those guys if they'd vote for it now. Blago tossed in free rides and all kinds of goodies. I guess this is another one of those multi-million dollar "non general tax increases" he supported. Another rationalization; let the out of towners pay the tax Tehee. Now with Red light cameras, we're the out of towners who will be paying that tax for going 31mph in a 25mph zone when the light turns yellow and we don't slam on our brakes. Money grabs all around.

Dillard did vote for massive gambling expansion. Video Poker is only one foolish element of it. Tying the capital bill to gambling revenues is just irresponsible. I have a feeling that Mayor Daley spoke to Governor Edgar about a Chicago Casino first hand, don't you? Now Rahm wants one, it does appear your guy is doing everything he can to help him. If Kirk said "NO" to Daley, why is he saying "YES" to Rahm...on everything he wants. The budget needs to be based on less spending, not "new" revenue sources that systematically become lower. Basing your long term financial picture on how Lady Luck treats you at the casino is suspect to me.
Rationalizing the DREAM ACT is hard to fathom Frank. You've forgotten or didn't know that Chris Nybo is married to a woman who is the child of LEGAL immigrants. The Dream Act provides incentives to people to go around the system of legal immigration. Your argument on this legislation is without any merit. You should know better. Thing is, I think you do.

This has all been very fun to read. What a terrible thing it is that Chris Nybo has a top notch education. Anyone who doesn't appreciate what lessons are taught at Fenwick outside of the corners of the books doesn't much understand what type of place it is. He went to University of Chicago for law school, recognized all over the world has having the top professors in teaching the law with economics. Professors that are sitting Justices and the 7th Circuit such as Richard Posner and Frank Easterbrook as well as Richard Epstein one of the brightest law and economics minds in the country. Now what a shame he was around those types. Lets not forget Dillard is an attorney too!!! He went to DePaul law School. Last time I checked that's a private school as well. He also serves as a Public Policy School Mentor for the University of Chicago, wasn't bright enough to get in but they at least let him walk around there now and occasionally talk to people. Lets also not forget he's a partner at Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell LLP, one of Chicago's oldest and largest law firms and has been working as a high ranking republican for two decades...but I suppose HE really has his finger on the pulse of the "little guy." What a load of crap. Why would we as republicans want someone who is dumb or less successful? Are people here actually wanting someone who is less impressive? That seems to be the case, so Kirk Dillard is definitely your man. Unless you're a democrat, then you'd love Kirk.

All of his legislative achievements? With the shape this state is in, I wouldn't be running around touting about how great I've done in the state legislature. Kirk Dillard has been a part of the problem for years. He constantly gives in to democrats so he can keep his sliver of power that Mike Madigan lets him have because he knows deep down Kirk Dillard is dying to put a D next to his name. But Dillard is an establishment guy. We know how that works. They pick the guy and everyone falls in line. O wait, Chris Nybo brought the first bill proposing that and voluntarily opted-out because he disagreed with it. Now dillard is putting it as a feather in his cap? Get real. I'm also not surprised that they love him in Addison Township, with all the hispanic voters in AT and the fact that Dillard supported the DREAM ACT. I wouldn't be running around pumping up township government either. It should be done away with. It's a waste of money. If either of the two were serious, instead of seeking their approval, they'd be presenting a plan to consolidate and abolish township government, bring that to the people and explain how much money you're going to save them. Dillard helped pass SB1652 – a huge electric rate increase sought by ComEd and Ameren. (2011)
Dillard voted to raise sales taxes and fees.
Dillard voted for HB255 significantly raising the sales tax on a number of grocery related items including beverages, candy, and health and beauty aids. Taxes on beer, wine and other alcohol were also hiked. HB255 also triples the driver’s license fee. Further, this bill legalizes video gambling for bars and taverns. You can call that a “voluntary” tax if you want – but it still represents a big tax hike. Those bars and taverns don’t just hand over a big cut of their gambling machine proceeds to the state out of the goodness of their hearts. It’s a tax that gets the state its share of the machines’ take. (2009)

Frank, no need to offer the Shhhh. The entire City of Elmhurst and significant portions of Lombard have very unique and much higher than normal grid issues. Many Elmhurst residents found themselves standing in 2-3' of sewage in their basements. Many more in both towns had serious and devastating flooding due to power outages that disabled sump-pumps. The devastation was incredible. Chris has pushed Com Ed for a memorandum of understanding on grid overhauls with Elmhurst. The trailer bill is better than the original bill. Not great, but good enough in order to offer these communities sorely needed relief. Hardly a Shhh occasion.

You've accused Chris of ducking votes (which he hasn't- see story in today's Suntimes about seatmates watching your button- Chris removed his key when he wasn't able to be in the chamber for the vote- still got his vote in the record). I think you're insinuating that our campaign is paying someone. That's both ironic and untrue. You offered your services to us in the beginning of this campaign and it was clear to me that you would require income. We have remained a volunteer organization. There's nothing inherently wrong with paying people, we just haven't done it (with the exception of some very modest cost for data entry by a stay at home mom- somewhere around $30/Week and about 8 weeks of work).
All of these entries are interesting, but the real question in my mind is "When will we see the press release explaining your guy's support for Red Light Cameras now issuing Speeding Tickets too?!? I've seen the soft response of it's only in Chicago. Not good enough. That's where RL Cameras started too. That's a caucus break too. You've been very critical of that. Dillard did not vote against allowing the Mayor of Chicago to DOUBLE the telephone tax.

Dillard helped the Democrats massively expand gambling – AGAIN
Dillard voted for SB737 which creates five new casinos – plus transforms six horse tracks into full-fledged casinos by authorizing slots and video gambling. (2010)
Dillard voted for a massive expansion of gambling.
Dillard voted for HB255 - a massive expansion of gambling in Illinois. HB255 legalizes video gambling for bars and taverns, and permits Internet Lottery on computers and cell phones. Video gambling machines are often called the “crack cocaine” of gambling because of the speed of play and the rapid onset of addiction. (2009)
Dillard did not vote against subsidize horseracing through riverboat casinos.
Dillard was in attendance when the vote was taken but did not cast a vote for or against, refusing to take a principled stand. HB1918 requires riverboat casinos that have gross receipts of more than $200 million in 2004 to pay 3% of their adjusted gross income to the Horse Racing Trust Fund. (2006)
Dillard voted to legalize video gambling in bars across Illinois.
HB1124 would have legalized gambling on video game “contests” of two or more in bars, restaurants, bowling alleys, and other venues. (2007)

PROTECTING OUR FAMILIES
Dillard did not vote against allowing alcohol to be sold near schools.
Dillard was in attendance when the vote was taken but did not cast a vote for or against, refusing to take a principled stand. SB2445 removed the restriction that had prohibited alcohol sales within 100 feet of a school entrance. (2006)
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
Dillard voted for the Illinois DREAM Act.
Dillard voted YES and helped pass the Illinois DREAM Act, legislation awarding special rights and benefits to undocumented immigrants in Illinois (SB2185). (2011)
Dillard did not vote against making it more difficult to enforce the nation’s immigration laws.
Dillard was in attendance when the vote was taken but did not cast a vote for or against, refusing to take a principled stand. HB1744 amends the Right to Privacy in the Workplace Act to prohibit employers from enrolling in any Employment Eligibility Verification System. (2007)

Dillard voted to force state and local governments to recognize “consular identification cards” issued by foreign governments.
SB1623 forces state and local governments to recognize the consular identification cards issued by foreign governments and commonly used by illegal Mexican immigrants. (2005)
Dillard did not vote against in-state tuition for illegal aliens.
Dillard was in attendance when the vote was taken but voted “present” refusing to take a principled stand. HB0060 allows undocumented immigrants to attend state universities at in-state tuition rates. (2003)
REFORM (or the lack thereof)
Dillard did not vote against exempting teachers, principals and school superintendents from FOIA disclosure.
Dillard was in attendance when the vote on SB315 was taken, but did not vote for or against the bill - refusing to take a principled stand. At the urging of the teachers’ unions and just months after approving what was billed as a sweeping reform of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, SB315 exempts from FOIA disclosure of performance evaluations for teachers, principals and school superintendents. Also supporting the bill was the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 31 which seeks the same exemption for all public employees who receive performance evaluations. Dillard voted to water down ethics reform law.
Dillardf voted to exempt transportation projects from the new ethics law (SB761). Despite the awesome demands of riding around on a High Horse every day since Rod Blagojevich’s arrest lecturing about the need to reform Illinois’ culture of corruption – state lawmakers still somehow found time to gut their own brand new “landmark” ethics reform law. This of course would be the same ethics reform law these same lawmakers hailed as “a big step forward.” (2009)
Dillard voted to make it more difficult for write-in candidate to get on the ballot.
SB662 changed the deadline for filing to be a write-in candidate to 61 days before an election. The purpose for this change is purely for incumbent protection. (2007)
Dillard did nothing to help cleanse the Illinois Republican Party of the tainted National Committeeman Bob Kjellander.
Bob Kjellander could have been removed and replaced with an honest leader a lot earlier, if only Republican “leaders” like Dillard were serious about reform. Dillard never joined the rank-and-file and more serious officials who overwhelmingly called for Kjellander’s immediate ouster. It’s only because Dillard and a tiny handful of other old guard faces refuse to unify on reform that even this simplest of clean-ups remain difficult to accomplish.

The bottom line is summed up well by the conservative downstate Peoria Journal Star in it STRONG editorial for Kirk Dillard in the GOP primary for Governor when it said, “Make no mistake about it, Kirk Dillard is a solid social and fiscal conservative”. Dillard has sponsored and passed more tax relief than any member of the Senate and has never voted for a general tax increase….he also left $ 1.5 billion in the treasury as Jim Edgar’s chief of staff…all without an income tax increase. End of Story.

$1.5 Billion in the treasury as Edgar's Chief of Staff. Fast forward to 1993-2011 Senate years- $90 Billion in debt. Do we blame the last 3 or 4 Chiefs of Staff for that?
I'm still very confused by the statement "He's never voted for a GENERAL tax increase". That's an interesting qualifying statement. Does that excuse the multitude of UN-GENERAL TAX INCREASES? It just sounds silly and deceptive. It might be time to defend those tax increase votes that weren't "general". The solid social and fiscal conservative statement isn't standing lately either. Gambling, Dream Act, Red Light Speeding Tickets, CTA tax relief package, it just isn't adding up.

Mr. Nathan,
Looks like Sen. Dillard has been working hard for the district. I would never agree on every vote for so many good years in public service.
You're pretty good at the arm chair stuff on Monday mornings.
I've got no issue with Nybo, but really, what could he really know about life experiences at his tender age? All this talk about his Ivy league college and privileged private high school and grade school is great if you live in Boston, MA.
Truth is, a majority of the district attended really great public universities as well as public schools.
I would ask you and Mr. Nybo to fix the stiff upper lip.
Kevin Fitzpatrick
11:19 am on Friday, October 28, 2011
Mr. Angel, Really? You have no issue with Nybo? Scroll up 12" where you referred to him as an "empty suit". That sounds like you have issues to me. Examine the upbringing of both guys. Kirk is a nice man who I'm sure would not tell you that he's a "rags to riches" story that could only happen in America. Life experiences are important, but unless you want to set the bar at 60 years old for legislators, the system relies on constant refreshing. The people younger that Chris Nybo are going to be the ones saddled the most with the tragic lack of responsibility sloughed off by the last 25 years of this legislature. Should they really have to wait forever to combat the horrible circumstances an irresponsible legislature saddled them with?
All the stiff upper lip, Ivy league, class stuff is silly. Look at issues and votes and the district that needs representation. That's all that matters.

Fitz, c'mon, he pretty much is an empty suit politicallyl speaking! What's wrong with being 60-70-80 in doing anything, politics or otherwise? Point is; Nybo lacks way too many "intangibles" to be taken serious. Not to mention his crazy temperment to handle his emotions when things go south on him or comes to meetings unprepared?
STOP your crap. You know very well the DEMS have been in power for over 25 years! I suspect you and Nybo are an extenison of Michael Madigan too!
Why else are you and Nybo the only Repubicans in the state (RINO's) staging a stunt against a sitting office holder?
Kevin Fitzpatrick
11:50 am on Friday, October 28, 2011
Mr. Angel, I don't think he's an empty suit in any fashion. I don't say those kinds of things about anyone. I work extremely close with Rep. Nybo. He's very well prepared and not prone to temperamental behavior. His intangibles are tremendous strengths for him. If anything, he's honest to a fault. He's not a real political kind of guy. He moves quickly and efficiently and tells people up front what they can expect. Then he does what he says he's going to do. That's why a guy like me is willing to put so much time into him; he is a model of good government. The Dems have not run the Senate for the past 25 years. Mr. Dillard has been a member of the majority during his tenure. Plenty of officeholders around the state are facing primaries. The Dems made sure of that. Remember this Mr. Angel; both of these men are incumbents. As for me (or Chris) being a RINO? You certainly don't know me if you think that. An extension of Michael Madigan? You're a little more than a little out there on that one my friend. When you say things like you do, it would seem to me that a number of people might respond to you emotionally. I'm just not one of them. Why would I?

By the Way, Frank I do live in the district and it is well-known that you would've worked for Chris had he paid you. I guess all you're looking for is money. Barry,
Not a single dollar has been given to me for my time with the Dillard campaign. I offered to help Chris run for office, not to run against Dillard. If Nybo knew he was running against Dillard, he did not share that information with me, and I have been told that he solicited support from several people who thought he was less than forthcoming when doing so. He did not say he was running for the Senate, and many construed that to mean he was running for the House. Same experience as mine, btw.

Frank, notwithstanding your separate discussion with Mr. Nathan, I will take you at your word that you have not, are not and will not accept any compensation for your efforts in the Dillard campaign. Correct my understanding if I have misspoke.
As for Chris' campaign, It was you and me who spoke and I remember it very clearly. You were looking for an income opportunity. We did not have one. It was much too early to suggest what direction Chris might go as he was drawn into a district with 2 other respected colleagues. He was bound for a primary no matter what (don't suggest the 7th or the 46th. He doesn't live there and you DO have to move there within two years if you plan to defend the seat). He's not moving and uprooting his young family-that's a final decision. He made it clear if Rep. Bellock were to retire, he would run for the State Rep seat in the 47th. She's running. Nice to know you would have worked for him against her. He feels there aren't enough women legislators now. He didn't want to work toward reducing women in the legislature by even one. Your innuendo about this being a secret is laughable. He waited for her decision and acted accordingly. No one was misled. Not the least of all; you. We were both in the conversation. You weren't confused or lost trying to construe anything. You made it clear to me that you wanted and needed a paying gig. I understood. I assured you we don't pay. You shopped your services. I'm sorry to hear you're not being compensated.

Fitz, good government model out of Nybo? Paleezz-Leaves the room on important votes. Is a strong advocate for doling out non-competitive contracts to personal friends and campaign contributors (pay to play). Was Nybo prepared for the Downers endorsement event? NO. Did he loose his cool. YES. Did he demonstrate the same pattern of behavior in Aldermanic campaign-YES (we have on tape). Did he give his word to the caucus, YES. Word broken? YES.
THERE is no other Senate race on the Republican side where a proven incumbent Senator is being challenged in a primary.
You know you are helping the DEMS on this one. Mike is on Nybo's speed dial.
Always remember "whats good for the goose is good for the gander."

Mr. Angel, Nearly everything you have stated is untrue. There is a Senate Race right next store between Rep. Ramey and Sen. Pankau. She has virtually the same tenure in the Senate as Dillard. I don't think anyone has Mike Madigan's phone # but his own family. Chris certainly does not. I don't know what word you think he went back on in his caucus, but I can assure you that's false too. Ask the Leader. There was no screaming either. You guys just make crazy things up. Nobody lost their cool in DG Township. The position today is exactly the same as it was a day after the endorsement session. No regrets. We're philosophically opposed to endorsing at all in primaries (a York Twp. tenet) and especially before a single person has filed. It's unproductive, meaningless and not surprising. It's an attempt to help the home town guy. It was really meant to stymie Sen. Sandack more than anyone else. Your continued railing on about different schools is childish and goofy. If you've got a tape of Chris going nuts, show it to everyone you know. The world has a tape of the endorsement of Barack Obama. That's not Chris Nybo doing it.

Kevin Fitzpatrick
1:35 pm on Friday, November 11, 2011
Not sure who KP is. To answer your somewhat silly question, No. There is no purpose for having endorsements prior to the "filing date". Nobody is even on a ballot yet. The majority of precincts are in York and Milton; 2 townships that never do endorsements in primaries. Most don't. Here's the breakdown approximately of precincts; Addison-10, Downers Grove-40, Lyons- 6, Lisle 8. The remaining 165-170 are in York and Milton with over 100 in York. York is solidly behind Nybo (sans Mssrs. Canzolino and Hassan of course- and Hassan doesn't live in the district). Most townships don't wait to endorse- they customarily don't do it in primaries. As of today there are at least 2 more candidates in the District 2 CB race from Elmhurst. Since none of the candidates outside of DG Twp. were invited in this race, I guess it doesn't matter. DGT is also a smaller portion of CB District 2 than York. Are you starting to get it, Mr. Angel?

York Township is 40% of the population of the district. It is not unusual for a Downers Grove precinct to be twice the size of a York precinct. But those are just numbers, nothing compared to a finger in the wind.
Most importantly, Elmhurst and York could have a representative in Springfield and keep the Democrats out of York and DuPage County, if the young Nybo would run in House Dist. 46, an open seat. This isn't about Elmhurst or York, with Nybo it is about Nybo's ENORMOUS ego.
And oh, yeah, isn't popular former Attorney General Jim Ryan, an Elmhurst resident, with Kirk Dillard (better check your mailbox). As an Elmhurst Resident, something you too Kevin are not, I have no problem being represented by someone not living in Elmhurst.

Frank, Allow me to straighten out the record for you yet again. You know this, but it doesn't prevent you from stating otherwise. Nybo is on the record, the official record in the Illinois House as AGAINST the Dream Act and Gambling Expansion. He was off the floor when the votes were taken meeting with the Governor (at the Governor's request). He doesn't leave his voting key on the floor when he leaves so his vote isn't recorded with him not casting it. Yesterday, he was the last speaker before the CME/Sears Bill was called. His law firm represents Sears. It would have been inappropriate to vote on it. He stated so 1 minute before the vote.
If I see you post this mullarkey one more time, I'm going to treat the readers to an expansive report of Kirk Dillard's "not voting" and "present votes" assembled by Doug Ibendahl. It's two pages long and it demonstrates "present" and "not voting" on the most important issues over the past several years. If readers want to see it, they can simply go to Illinois Review and do a simple search. Intentionally misleading people is bad policy Frank. I will call you on it every single time. Quit trying to rationalize your candidates votes FOR: Embryonic Stem Cell Research, RTA tax increase, Dream Act, Red Light Speeding Tickets, etc. Today he'll probably vote for the CME/Sears tax credit vote. I for one, would not and will not criticize that vote. Neither will Chris Nybo. The state cannot afford to lose more jobs caused by years of bad policy.

Elmhurst will have the best of representation, Sen. Dillard who brought in the funding for York High School, the road improvements on North Avenue and St. Charles Road, the purchase of Elmhurst Quarry for flood control and many other things that have directly benefited Elmhurst. This was done all while he lives in Hinsdale. The argument that any single town (population about 50k in a district of 250k) deserves a representative is ludicrous on its face. Are you saying that if Nybo is elected, all the other towns will not get the representation they deserve? This argument reflects the arrogance of your campaign...

Here' s what is arrogance Frank; Take $250K from the Teachers and then enter Pension Reform Discussions. Don't suggest that was for a Governor's race- that campaign acct. is still $1 million + in debt. Only Illinois allows that kind of funny math to work. Video Cameras giving speeding tix- side deal with Emanuel. Check your guy's campaign filing; he pays himself a "political per diem". Explain that to all of us inquiring minds. Not even a campaign 'per diem' like your guy gives himself- that is rather remarkable. No wonder you need all that IEA and Gambling money. You got to pay those "campaigning per diem expenses". All of our interns get to experience legislative and campaign work. That's what they're there to learn without pay. Their alumni will tell you the experience is worth it. They've gone on to use the excellent experience. Frankly, Frank, they're all bright kids and very capable in all of the disciplines of a legislative office or a campaign office. I guess you're Dillard's intern. You're a bit to senior to qualify for our program. As far as"...so perhaps you shouldn't go there", we can talk about the money stuff all day long. Certainly you have something in your quiver about why groups and people are coming out for Dillard based on his past work product and plans for the future. Why you haven't gotten around to anything forward looking about what Nybo can and will do. Nybo sponsored the legislation to get rid of Blago Billboards, enable School nurses to save kids lives with Epi-pens, help employers provide more jobs by enacting Workers Comp Reform (your guy didn't want to offend the docs who give him $) The hospitals who employ all the people liked it though. He also sponsored a bill to let the State Treasurer invest (non tax) revenues into high tech investment capitalization for tech companies on the hi tech corridor in DuPage to prevent the continuing brain drain of people we educate, only to see them head to the east and west coast. He's not a fan of gaming. He's not a fan of the Dream Act. He's not a fan of Embryonic Stem cell research which hasn't saved a single life (adult stem cells and umbilical stem cells do!). He's not a fan of Red Light cameras giving tickets to raise revenue across the aisle for Rahm. Nybo votes a lot like Roskam does. Your guy doesn't. He votes like a guy who doesn't think about the district back home. The group of people coming out for Nybo are the people he serves. They get it. Keep slamming the Tea Party Frank. He's taking the Nybo approach. That's working and listening. Get it?

Alright Kevin you've proven your point. Rep. Nybo is for every mean spirited teabagged notion under the sun. It's guys like him that are going to ensure that the republican party nationally will suffer the biggest electoral backlash in 200 years.
That is right ~ I'm an Eisenhower, Thompson, Weld, Rockefeller, Edgar Republican. The only kind of GOPer capable of being elected to the Governorship in this state.
When are you guys in the Voldemort wing going to wake up and realize that being being scrooge/grinch isn't doing anybody any good.

Removing Billboards, giving kids life saving shots while they're in shock, creating jobs...are those mean spirited notions? I can just imagine great Veteran D.D. Eisenhower doing flip flops in his grave being compared with Rockerfeller. Even Thompson and Edgar delineate a significant philosophical difference. If you're speaking for your candidate now using these examples that range anywhere from fiscal conservative with a weak spot for cheeseburgers and betting on horses (Edgar) to New England Republican standards that wouldn't even meet the threshold of Conservative Democrat in this state (Weld of MA.), you might want to check with him. Using terms like the "Voldermort wing" kinda puts you in that scroogy, grinchy category you're bringing up. Everything you do and say is very personal Michael. People see it immediately.

Chris Nybo is a New Republican - that we sorely need. Enough of the old machine Republocrats... Yes! Machine Republicrats, this IS Illinois. The Machine has run things forever.
Kirk Dillard supported Obama, which in my opinion was the wrong thing to do.
We need new blood in Illinois government, as the worst state in the union needs an overhaul NOW
Kirk Dillard, what have you been doing the last 12 years?

Add this to the Dillard voting record Frank:
Voted for Embryonic Stem Cell Research; According to Campaign Mgr. Lee Lewis- "Moral Embryonic Stem Cell Research (no such thing) and they were going to be thrown out anyway" That's not a pro-life position.
Voted for Dream Act
Voted for Gambling Expansion
Voted for Red Light Speeding Ticket Cameras.
Voted for RTA Tax (not a general tax according to them-even though we all pay it)
Voted for tens of millions of dollars in taxes; just not a general (?) tax. Pretty lame.
