Two Elmhurst Museums Now Free for Military Personnel All Summer

Theatre Historical Society and Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art are Blue Star Museums. Through a collaboration of the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 1,500 museums across America, Blue Star Museums offer free admission to active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day, May 28, through Labor Day, Sept 3.

“When I was in the service we were always looking for things to do away from base to get our minds off being where we were," said Richard Sklenar, executive director of Theatre Historical Society and a Vietnam–era U.S. Army veteran. Blue Star Museums give service men and women 1,500 things to do. Theatre Historical Society in now one of them."
 
“Blue Star Museums are an incentive for active service families to engage in cultural experiences in our community. We are proud to be a part of this program" said Dorothy Asher, museum director for Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art.
 
This year, more than 1,500 (and counting) museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are taking part in the initiative, including more than 300 new museums this year. Blue Star Museums represents fine arts museums, science museums, history museums, nature centers, and 70 children’s museums.
