Three Things to Love About Elmhurst Public Library’s Freegal Music
Expand your music library with access to more than 400,000 songs from over 50 Sony-affiliated labels. Here’s what we love most about EPL’s newest resource, Freegal Music.
1. It’s FREE and LEGAL (get the name now?). Elmhurst Public Library subscribes to Freegal, a music service that works with libraries to offer free and legal songs for patrons to download and keep.
2. You can download three songs per week, and you get to keep them forever. Everything you download can be added to your computer, phone, or any MP3 player.
3. All you need is an Elmhurst Public Library card. There’s no software to download, and the website guides you through the download process, as well as how to add your selections to your music library (such as iTunes) on your computer, phone, or any MP3 player. After logging in through www.elmhurstpubliclibrary.org, check out the FAQ page about how to add your downloads to different devices.
Visit the Library’s website at www.elmhurstpubliclibrary.org to begin downloading now!

I don't know what the library pays for this service, but doubt it's free (per the Freegal website, it is "SOLD to libraries". So I pay higher property taxes so the library can take my taxes and give it to Freegal so people can get free music downloads. How totally absurd is that!!! If people want music downloads, they should pay for them themselves, not rip it out of my pocket. Another example of out-of-control government.

I sort of disagree with you Scott. If you think back to what the library used to be (books, cassettes, CDs, etc), you will see that ours has always been a great place to go to get up to date media. I don't see this as anything else but the library doing a great service to us that pay taxes. You could say that the library shouldn't buy books because we can pay for them ourselves. Doesn't that sound a little bit silly? Since I pay taxes, I plan on taking advantage of this.

This just in...Elmhurst Public Library has paid pro-abortion author and anti-Catholic bigot, Sara Paretsky, $7,500 to speak at an event in Elmhurst called Elmhurst Reads.
A complaint is being made to the library board to stop this incredible waste of taxpayer money. For such a nice library, sponsoring this author is a complete disgrace.

This has nothing to do with the article and should be removed.

Susan, regarding Sara Paretsky, I'm not sure why you want to censure me on this topic. But anyway, please read the Chicago Tribune article from January 22, 2012 that in Ms. Paretsky's own words links her character V.I. Warshawski with the pro-abortion movement. I am not making this up. It has EVERYTHING to do with the event.

I'm not trying to censor you, I'm pointing out to Patch that your comment has NOTHING TO DO with this article on Freegal.
