On Tuesday, February 12th, students at Immaculate Conception Grade School in Elmhurst gathered outside of the school building to witness the burning of palms. IC parishioners had been asked to bring their palms, from last year's Palm Sunday Mass, to IC last weekend. The palms are traditionally burned to create the ashes that are placed on Catholics' foreheads on Ash Wednesday. On Wednesday, February 13th, ICGS students came together for Ash Wednesday Mass and the distribution of ashes. IC Pastor, Father Tom Paul spoke to the children about the three things Catholics are asked to do during Lent, pray, fast and give alms to those in need. IC Parish will be raising funds during Lent for the children of the St. Mary's Mission in Red Lake, Minnesota.
